Mark C2023-10-26Levuka Homestay is by far the best experience Levuka has to offer John & Marilyn (Levuka Homestay) was by far the best experience of our trip to Fiji! Their knowledge about Fiji was so deep, and our evening drinks together chatting are some of the fondest memories I will take with me moving forward in my life :) (by the way, they are also absolutely hilarious and can joke like no one else can!). My wish in life is to have something John and Marilyn currently have -- a place where all are welcome and drinks are to be had! They were also very generous at times when we needed them most. For example, one day due to high winds the ferry out of Levuka was inoperable on our check-out date, and we were stuck on Ovalau. So John had a vacant room, and was kind enough to offer us lodging at a generous rate due to this unforeseen circumstance. And, on a late night where restaurants were closed, Marilyn was generous enough to make us dinner as we all sat around the table talking merrily late into the night. And when I fell a bit ill during the trip, she even provided medicine for me that kept me feeling better :) The rooms are very roomy, spotless, and incredibly charming with lots of care and thought put into every detail aimed to delight you. They are also uniquely Levukan in style and feel that felt so authentic. The water was nice and HOT too! And of course, the breakfast in the mornings are to die for. Marilyn even made us eggs and bacon any way we liked it. And the various jams and chutneys. My mouth waters as I think of it now!!! 🤤🤤🤤🤤 The breakfast is enough for you to want to stay another few days -- it's that good. The best breakfast on the entire island! If you want to have a comfortable stay that also feels very Fijian with good music, talks, laughs (or if you even just want some private time), Levuka Homestay is the closest feeling you can get to a perfect stay. Do not hesitate to book.davis j2023-10-04Amazing experience and the best breakfast in the world! Just thinking about Levuka homestay makes me smile. I have stayed there a few time and I can not say enough wonderful things about John and Marilyn, the staff, the levuka town, and the breakfast (oh the breakfast)!! When I return home to America every couple of weeks or so I will longingly remember the levuka homestay breakfast. I have never had a breakfast that good, anywhere ever. Highest reviews from me! I Love this place!Polly Dolly2023-04-04The most amazing place we have ever visited! The homestay is the best place we have ever stayed. John and Marilyn are amazing hosts and are a very friendly couple, who make your stay so special, they become friends very quickly. Our room was lovely with everything you could need. It was cleaned every day by Matilda and another lady. Nox the gardener kept the gardens looking amazing, we loved our daily chats with all the staff. Lovely friendly and genuine people. Marilyn’s breakfast is totally amazing, it’s made with all fresh ingredients, a mix of different fruits, toast and so many jams, chutneys with so much flavour, toast, muesli, pancakes, coconut and pineapple bread, eggs, bacon, cheese, smoothies , coffee etc. All served with Johns amazing stories re the area and people. We certainly did not go hungry during our stay, we never needed lunch, and only had dinner a few times during our stay. Levuka is like going back in time, very relaxing. The locals are so friendly, they take an interest in the tourists. They are all so happy with amazing big smiles. You won’t go far without someone saying “BULA”, which means Hello. Although it was cyclone season while we were there, we only had rain at night, it was gloriously sunny and very hot during the day. It’s certainly a place to relax in, and the homestay is definitely the best place to stay in town. Horizon is a lovely restaurant, food is good with so much choice, staff are amazing and make you feel so welcome. They never forget a name either, which makes you feel so special. We will certainly miss Levuka and the people. John and Marilyn you are an amazing couple and we will miss you so much. Keep doing what you do best.TravellingMaster2023-03-27Home away from home Absolutely loved this place. John and Marilyn were amazed and made the most beautiful breakfast each day. The homestay is a short walk into the main area and the wharf is not far as well. If we went to Levuka again we would definitely stay here again.Nanaimoites2023-03-19The food, the rooms, the stories - all lovingly prepared and generously shared. To us - Levuka Homestay IS Fiji! I'll start with the breakfasts, which are legendary and well-documented - everything everybody says is true. They are the height of epicurean delight and you will not, I guarantee you, leave the table unsatisfied, no matter what your particular favourites are (ours was everything!). Now, that out of the way (this is by no means meant to minimize the importance of the great breakfasts but, rather to emphasize that everything at Levuka Homestay is excellent) i'll move on to the rest. Take away the owners and the breakfasts and, what do you have? You have a small, dedicated team of superb local professionals who keep the grounds/gardens and the rooms spotless. You have a location that is in the heart of Levuka. And, when I say heart, I mean it in the, I suppose, the romantic sense of the word. Stepping out of the gate and being met by two young men, strumming guitars and singing Fijian songs on their front porch. Continuing 'round the corner and stopping to watch a pick-up Rugby match played by boys of various ages. Being greeted with a smile and stopping for a chat with familiar faces - familiar because you'd met them yesterday and were now "local" (at least that's how we felt). Climbing a path to "the oval" (you'll need to ask John about this) only to find a dead-end with a house with a young boy outside who offers to take you, with great care and assistance, through the knee-high undergrowth, up the hill in his backyard to this historic space which offers amazing views of the town of Levuka and the villages surrounding it but which is, to the boy, simply where he and his friends play sport and climb trees to pick mangoes. Walking to town, down the back road past the historic school, convent, church, municipal buildings, all the while and, again, stopping, smiling, waving, chatting to the residents of this wonderful, magical place. Yes, its safe to say that Levuka (and the Homestay) holds a special place in our hearts. Okay - enough of the town and location. Moving on to John and Marilyn. They were the perfect hosts. Warm and welcoming. Inclusive, Informative. They shared their love of Levuka and the Fijian people with us and, they lived it every day. It was a joy to be around them and their team Oh, yes, sorry, the accommodation. Spotless, comfortable, everything you need to relax in your own space and nothing you didn't need. AC, small fridge, ceiling fan, spacious shower, desk, sofa, traditional louvered and shuttered windows, plus french doors leading onto the deck with seating for two. Timeless simplicity in the décor. it was cyclone season while we were there so, yes, we did spend quite a bit of time on that little deck but, what a sanctuary it was! Views to the sea through lush, colourful, varied plants that surround the property. Sitting there with the wind and rain deluge a few feet from us yet, completed protected, was the best feeling. If you've made it this far, in both this review and in your research about staying in Levuka - please, just do it. We've travelled a lot and this is, to us, a travel highlight that takes you back in time to a place that will touch your heart and stay with you long after you leave. I'm going to close with the comment I wrote in Levuka Homestay's Guest Book. It sums up our feelings - "It takes a very special host(s) to make strangers feel like friends. John, Marilyn, thank you so much for being the ultimate B&B hosts. You share the spirit of Bula in everything. The food, the rooms, the stories - all lovingly prepared and generously shared. To us, Levuka & you two ARE Fiji!"Dianne G2022-11-19A lovely getaway Being a Solo traveller (60+) what a lovely find Levuka Homestay was, within walking from the town, which shows all of its history. I was greeted by John and Marilyn who made me feel very welcome and comfortable. The breakfast Marilyn serves up is the best, everything from fresh fruit, fruit smoothie, home made jams, lemon and passionfruit spread, banana pancakes, toast, eggs, all enough to last you all day. My room was very clean and serviced daily by Matilda or Tala. Nox (the gardener) was very knowledgeable regarding the history of the island and for a small fee took me on a tour of the town and on some walking trails. Very special people, great home and lovely stay. My getaway was only for a few days but I would highly recommend staying at The Homestay.Kaylee B2022-06-18Amazing homestay! Myself and my friend stayed at Levuka Homestay for 2 nights and had an incredible time!! John and Marilyn were absolutely amazing hosts and we have no complaints whatsoever!! They were incredible to have a chat with and we cannot stop thinking about the breakfast they provided! Absolutely amazing food!! The facilities were amazing and was great to have air con and hot water for our showers (a luxury for Ovalau!!) We will most definitely be back to this special corner of the world.Gretel E2022-06-18Must visit! An absolute must when staying in Fiji. I’ve been to Levuka many times before and this was my first time staying at the Home Stay. I will be coming back many times again just for this amazing accommodation. John and Marilyn are beautiful hosts and I can’t stop thinking about the breakfast and the gorgeous view. Don’t miss this brilliant place!Priyanka M2021-12-26Highly recommend this Homestay The homestay is a short walk from the ferry, down the historic Beach Street. We only had light bags so we walked but there are cheap taxis available too. The property was well maintained and had a beautifully lush garden. The view from the upper deck was amazing and if we were morning people we would have enjoyed the sunrise from the deck. The room was clean, airy, peaceful, light, cosy and comfortable. There was a ceiling fan and an aircon for those balmy summer nights. We slept very comfortably. It was quiet and relaxing and was exactly what we needed. John and Marilyn were incredibly gracious hosts and made sure our short stay here was as comfortable as possible. They invited us to have Xmas drinks with them, and we had a great time chatting with them. We got to know a lot about the local community and the amazing people of Levuka and Fiji. Breakfast was included with the tariff and the spread by Marilyn was one of the best I have come across in a homestay. She cooked/baked almost everything herself including banana pancakes, coconut and mango bread, chilli and apple relish, passion fruit and lemon butter, banana and rum jam. The fresh mixed fruit smoothie just made our day. There was also cooked breakfast, toasts, variety of fresh local fruits, teas and home brewed coffee. For dinner there were a couple of options in town and we went with Kim’s Chinese restaurant. Unfortunately we only had one day here but our stay at Levuka Homestay made us feel that we have to come back with more time at hand and we definitely will. Thanks John and Marilyn, happy new year and all the best!Rosy2020-12-28Perfect I stayed here with friends for a weekend, and could not have asked for more.
